Portland Maine City Hall Wedding/ Samara and Adam

Portland Maine City Hall Wedding

If my 2018 wedding season is anything like my first wedding of the year then it's going to be one amazing year. I was so excited when Samara emailed me in January looking for a photographer for her and Adam's wedding in February. When I found out that they were marrying at one of my all time favorite backdrops- Portland City Hall, I just about jumped out of my seat. I've always loved the architecture of Portland City Hall but had never had the opportunity to go inside and photograph with it's gorgeous staircase. Often times when I shoot there the building is locked since it's only open during regular business hours. It was such a treat to get to use the whole place! They have started offering weekend wedding spots making it an amazing option for a ceremony site in Portland, Maine.

And it somehow gets even better- Samara and Adam decided to do the gender reveal of their baby at the wedding as well. Love, beautiful surroundings and people, AND babies. It's an understatement to say that I felt like one lucky photographer that day. Thank you so much Samara and Adam for having me photograph your wedding. Getting to start 2018 with your special day was an amazing way to kick things off. Congratulations!!!

Portland Maine Wedding Photographer/Nicole and Dan

weddings at Portland Ocean Gateway

Nicole and Dan choose to have their wedding at the Portland Ocean Gateway and after three minutes of arriving I could tell why. The location can't be beat, you have views of the water and also a city/industrial feel, and the staff was overwhelmingly kind and helpful. Not to mention the giant wall of windows that gives great natural light for the earlier part of a reception. I loved getting to photograph the dances and toasts with so much light coming in! A few highlights of the day for me were getting to photograph Nicole with her family, bridesmaids and man of honor at a gorgeous airbnb with lots of character and neat spots to shoot the details in, the gorgeous ceremony spot by the water, all that natural light for dances and toasts, and taking their bride and groom portraits out on the deck with the Ocean Gateway behind them. It was such a treat to photograph such a great couple at a venue that was new to me. You wouldn't have to pull my arm to get me to shoot there again! Here are a few favorites from their wedding day! Congratulations again you two!

Portland Maine Wedding Photographer/ Megan and Jacque

Portland Maine Wedding Photographer 7

I met Megan in college while we were both on the UMaine dance team. I was in awe of her grace, beauty, and charism from the start. Girl sparkles. I have memories of hanging out with her and Ashley (whom would end up being her maid of honor) in their dorm room in Hart hall. I have a specific memory of making shirts with Ashley to wear to Megan's performance in the UMaine singing talent competition. A sort of college level American idol where she of course rocked it. Since then I've been able to watch her journey after college via social media and I've loved following along while she traveled the world, met Jacque, and got engaged. I knew whomever she was going to end up being with must be a really special person and so I was really excited to meet Jacque and to get to be a part of their wedding day.

Now, when it comes to putting together a wedding these two ran into some hurdles. Everyone knows planning a wedding can be stressful and I've heard many of triumphs but the story of their rehearsal dinner takes the cake. When I showed up the day of I was told the story of the night before. Their rehearsal dinner of 30 people was all set and planned until one hour before it was about to start when Megan got a call from the restaurant saying that a pepsi truck had crashed nearby and caused their power to go out. They had to cancel. Immediately Megan's maid of honor went into crisis mode and with the help of the Westin's front desk was able to organize a rehearsal dinner for 30 people with printed menus and wait staff in under an hour. I take that to all mean one thing--- meant to be! The next day went smoothly with no such bumps in the road. A highlight for me was photographing the ceremony in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, a STUNNING church. Also, photographing their portraits at Portland City Hall.

Thank you so much for having me Megan and Jacque! It was a beautiful experience.

Places in Portland Maine for Wedding Photos

Portland Maine Wedding Photos

I have photographed quite a few weddings in the Portland Maine area and I've determined that it's a great place to hold a wedding for many reasons. 1. There are many awesome wedding venues and vendors 2. It's a city right on the water so you can get two totally different vibes (downtown and nautical). 3. There are SO MANY beautiful spots to take photos. In my years as a wedding photographer I've developed a love for shooting in Portland Maine and I've got my top choices for wedding photo spots in the area narrowed down.

1. The Cobblestones

Wedding Photographers in Portland Maine

I mean, come on. The old city feel...the reflected light...sigh...  There are few things I wouldn't do to get to photograph on these little stones again. Luckily I wont' have to wait long (only three weeks until wedding season starts!!! ;) ). This and the first photo in this post were taken on Wharf Street in the Old Port and are from Elise and Kevin's wedding last October

2. Spring point ledge

Spring Point Ledge Lighthouse

Spring Point Ledge lighthouse is in Southern Maine right next to Southern Maine Community College (practically attached). I LOVE photographing here, because it has a lot going on in one spot. There is no driving in between necessary to get to all of them. All within easy walking distance you'll find a lighthouse, the SMCC campus, a rocky beach area, a sandy beach area, and grassy trails. For Olivia's senior portraits (here) we used all of the spots and I couldn't have been happier with how the session turned out.

2. Deering Oaks Park

Wedding photos Portland Maine

Deering Oaks Park is Portland's own little Central Park! A big old forest right in the middle of a city. Adding it to your photo stop list is great way to get a more natural/woodsy feel. The park has an awesome bridge (in back of above photo), a pond with plenty of ducks, and gorgeous tall greenery.

3. Portland City Hall

Portland Maine City Hall

Isn't there just something so sweet about a freshly married couple walking away from a city hall? It makes me giddy. Portland's city hall isn't to shabby either. The dramatic staircase, the arches, iron gates, the interesting corners of architecture, and the gold lettering all make for a really neat place for photos.

4. Bug Light Park

Places for photos Portland Maine

Bug Light is the sweetest victorian style lighthouse you'll ever see. It has a long narrow stone getty going out to it, really pretty detail along the trim, and it's just so stinkin' cute! I've photographed there a couple of times including Gina and Harry's engagement session last July.

5.Fort Williams park

Fort Williams Maine Wedding Pictures

While not EXACTLY in Portland, Fort Williams Park is right over the bridge in Cape Elizabeth. It has a few different elements that make it a hot spot for photos. There is a beach area, rocky cliffs, a grass lawn with an old rustic stone building, and oh yeah... the most photographed lighthouse in Maine, the Portland Head Light. I loved getting to photograph in this park last year for Katelyn and Mike's wedding

If you are getting married in Portland Maine be sure to consider some of these spots for your photos!

Portland Maine Wedding Photographer/ Elise and Kevin

Portland Maine Photo Spots

I'm so excited to finally share the wedding of Elise and Kevin! I've had the pleasure of working with them a few times now and it seems like I was just taking their engagement portraits yesterday. On the day of their wedding I met Elise and her bridesmaids at a private residence for getting ready photos. The ever organized Elise had all her details ready for me to start photographing (thanks girl!). So I went at it and in between detail shots got a lot of moments between Elise and her family and friends that I love.

While I was with Elise my second shooter for the day, Jen, photographed Kevin and his groomsmen getting ready.

And now please prepare yourself for a large amount of bridal party photos. Elise and Kevin straight up spoiled me with all the different locations for their bridal party and bride and groom portraits. We shoot on Wharf Street in the Old Port, Bug Light for their first look, Deering Oaks Park, Grace Restaurant, and City Hall. I was in heaven.

We had to get a few portraits in front of Grace's iconic bright red door. I think we were meant to since just by chance there were no cars parked in front of it and I could get a great angle.

They had their wedding ceremony at First Parish church in Portland, which was conveniently in walking distance of Grace.

After the ceremony everyone headed back over to Grace to celebrate. Since Elise and Kevin opted to do a first look and family formals before the ceremony they were able to join their guests during cocktail hour.

Elise and Kevin's cocktail hour was in Grace's main room and then everyone ventured downstairs for the reception. I loved their reception details! Their colors paired with the fall gourds, golden moose (my favorite) and the many candles really came together.
