Happy New Year!

A happy NEW YEAR TO YOU! I’ve always been a sap for New Years. I love the chance to reflect on the past and plan for the future. I’m a huge fan of resolutions, goals and yearly-words. 2018 was a year of growth! We were tried and tested in 2018. We dealt with struggles that I never anticipated, but I’m happy to say though that as of 12/31/2018 those trials have come to a close and we are better than ever after the growth they brought.

In 2018 we also had so many celebrations

My business grew exponentially this past year. It was the best year yet for my business and I shot a record number of weddings and sessions for Cassandra Henri Photography. If I wasn’t photographing my own weddings I was second shooting for TDow Photography. Learning from her and the experiences gained from being her assistant was HUGE. She also took these sweet photos of Julian and I in December. I’ll never be able to thank her enough for capturing these pictures for us.

I WENT TO LONDON AND PARIS with two of my best gal friends who also happen to be Maine wedding photographers. An experience that I have millions of photos to go through and put on here soon.

Onto 2019! 2019- we have some PLANS for you. Derek and I will finally celebrate our 10 year union with a wedding! Yes I’ll be on the other side now and I’m very excited to share that journey on here. I’ve learned so much from my couples about the process. It’s made planning so far pretty seamless. In addition to that big personal event I plan to continue to grow professionally with another amazing season lined up and some new projects on the horizon.

SO thank you so much for an amazing 2018. I think often about how I wouldn’t have these new hopes and plans and dreams if I hadn’t been so supported in my initial dream- to be a wedding photographer. I’ll forever me grateful for that! Here’s to 2019. I know it’s gonna be a great one!

I hope you and yours had a wonderful Thanksgiving! Me and mine sure did. I got to spend the day inside cooking and staring at these sweet faces. I’ve decided that I will fight to host my family Thanksgiving ever year now since I realized if I host, I never have to leave my home and this past Thursday was deemed “The coldest Thanksgiving EVER”. Yeah. NO Thank you.

I thought it would be fun to take pictures of all the kids next to a sign saying what they were thankful for. We went with the first answer each gave and it was so awesome to hear their answers. Julian’s especially just about killed me.

I have so much to be thankful for this year. This Thanksgiving day post I wrote years ago still rings true for me today. I’m continually inspired by the support myself and my business has gotten to dream bigger. It takes a leap of faith to quite your job and pursue your passion and I’m so thankful that I landed. That combined with the amazing things 2018 has brought us makes me almost embarrassed by all the good fortune. More of my family moved to our area so I get to see them a lot more often, Derek got a new job with better hours so he can be home at night with us, I went to PARIS and LONDON with two amazing girlfriends… the list is endless but those are the big highlights! I can’t wait to see what the next 365 days bring. We’re on a roll!

A photo everyday of 2018/ week 3

Week 3! It was another week of mostly staying inside for us. Although I love Maine winters I'm really not built for this kind of cold. We've continued to find things to do inside our home and have been enjoying each other's company and that of a few visitors. I've also been anticipating the start of warmer weather with a few more 2018 wedding bookings (3 just last week!). I'm loving how this project has kept me practicing in the off season and learning new things. Until next week! Stay warm!

Wow! Week two of my 365 project was a little tricky. It was the busiest week I've had in awhile with lots of covering shifts and happily wedding bookings for my 2018 season! I did however manage to stop and take a photo each day. The cold temperatures and early sunsets made it so all of my work had to be taken inside usually after sun down. This isn't a problem but outdoors with natural light is my jam and I'm so looking forward to the day when I can actually go outside with my camera again. Looking back at this week, although I wish my lighting conditions had been better, I realize it's forced me to practice in less-than-ideal circumstances and I'm really happy to have these moments in the books! Julian had lots of fun with his friends, we congratulated my mother on her new job, and I redecorated my living room bookshelf. From big to small these moments are documented and I treasure each one! I hope you had a great week! Here's to the next half of January.

a photo everyday of 2018/ week: 1

Hello! Welcome to this new, big, exciting, and sometimes very overwhelming if I think about it too much project I am taking on for 2018! After being so inspired by the work of one of my favorite Maine family photographers, Kristina O'brien and her own 365 project, I decided to try it out for the year. Everyday for all the 365 days of 2018 I will take a photo of my world to share. I love capturing all the special moments of my clients, but sometimes I can get so caught up in everyone else's stories that I forget to focus and take in my own. Also- we are only a week in and the benefits of putting in the work to document a part of each day have made themselves clear. I could be having a "meh" day but forcing myself to pull out my camera and take a picture of whats around me reminds myself of how truly lucky I am. Since a large portion of my focus each day is my child, Julian I checked in with him and he is on board! I take so many photos of this kid that I think when I told him "Just one picture a day", he thought YES! JUST ONE! not a zillion like normal.  I'll be taking them daily and recapping them weekly here on my blog. Here is the first batch. Week one of 2018! Happy New Year!
