I have some pretty exciting news to share today! A couple of weeks ago I was approached by the editor of Real Maine Weddings magazine and asked to be featured on their blog! I was so pumped. I've always been grateful about having such an awesome publication that exclusively supports the Maine wedding industry. Of course I wanted to be featured on their blog! I was sent a list of questions that addressed both my own personal journey in photography and advice for couples planning their wedding. I was also asked to submit fifteen images for them to put with the post. I had a blast going through my archives and finding images that I feel best show what I aim for in my work- happy, fun, and real moments (and some pretty details too!). To see the full interview click on over HERE ! And as always thanks for coming along on my journey and letting me pop in and photograph yours!
Nothing beats a summer trip to Acadia! I'm always so happy to meet with families while they are vacationing in Bar Harbor for some family photos. I got to meet with the Khot family a couple of weeks ago. I loved their energy and with two young boys there was a lot! I welcome it because I think high energy makes for great candid photos. We decided to meet at Sand Beach as I've recently fell in love with the lighting and versatility of backdrops in that spot. I know the sun's routine there like the back of my hand! Thank you so much Khot family for spending some time with me on your vacation!
Now for my absolute favorite post of the year (or last year ;) ). Before we get any deeper into 2018 I need to take a moment to reflect on how amazing 2017 was for me and my business. Every year I feel like I grow and last year I felt like I shot up! And not just in my photography, but in my sense of business, in my personal life, in my general approach to most things. It was a year of growth for sure and getting to look back makes me appreciate the journey! In 2017 I shot my first destination wedding in Puerto Rico! I met so many awesome families that welcomed me and gave me the confidence to really do my own thing. Every wedding I've photographed I've walked away remembering how much I love doing what I do. I shot at new venues, new locations, and took more risks. I owe a huge debt of gratitude for the couples that went on these adventures with me. So without further ado here are my favorite images from my 2017 wedding season. Thank you so much for having me along CHP couples! It was a dream year.
Engagement sessions are one of my favorite parts of my job! They are always fun and full of lots of happy people and gorgeous places. They also give me a chance to get to know my couples. If you are considering adding an engagement session to your package I would highly recommend it! They are invaluable in that they give both of us a chance to practice working together before the big day! Also- having the photos to document such a special time for you and your partner is something you'll be thankful for all your lives. For more reasons on why to opt for an engagement session click HERE. I believe it's benefits are so great I devoted a whole post to the topic last year.
This year I photographed many engagement sessions for my 2018 wedding couples. Most of my sessions were in the fall toward the end of my 2017 wedding season. It was a great feeling to end my season while shooting the engagements of couples I'll continue to work with. I loved wrapping up 2017 with such excitement for the future. I also got to work with couples that will be getting married elsewhere but wanted to have the excitement of their future nuptials documented while in Maine. Anu and Tahira came back from New Jersey after I photographed their proposal in Fall of 2016. MJ and PJ wanted to take pictures in Maine where they live and work before getting married out of state. There were the high adrenaline proposal shoots of Emily and Ethan and Jason and Emma. All big moments for me and my career. 2017 was a great year for me and my work in engagement photography. A huge thank you to the couples that trusted me with documenting such a special time for them. I've loved getting to be a part of the journey even for just a little bit.
And now for something so so special! I'm happy to finally share the proposal of Emma and Jason! Jason contacted me a few months before he and Emma's planned trip to Bar Harbor Maine. Emma was running in the marathon last fall and Jason planned to propose to her while on the trip! I literally shriek every time I get a proposal inquiry. After my first one two years ago (that of Anu and Tahira HERE) I was hooked. It's like a thrill ride and I love getting to be a part of it. Jason and I communicated back and forth about timing and location and eventually decided to do the whole thing on Flying Mountain in Acadia National Park. We picked Flying Mountain because of it's view and it's easy accessibility. For such a short hike to the summit it has a stunning view. I arrived early the day of and made the 15 minute trek up to the top. After looking around I picked our spot and waited. There were very few people on the mountain and once Emma and Jason arrived it was just the three of us. When we saw each other we said "Hi" as strangers do and Emma then bolted to the other side of the mountain. Jason asked her where she was going and she replied "I wanna look around before sunset!". He then turned to me and mouthed "one second" and went after her. It worked out that we were the only three up there because when he suggested they have someone take their picture they had to return to my corner of the summit. In our planning Jason and I decided that I would cue his proposal by taking a picture with his camera when asked and then saying "Perfect!". Our plan played out and I quickly switched to my camera to capture the proposal! Of course Emma said YES! She was so surprised and they were so happy for the remainder of our session. Thank you so much Emma and Jason for having me photograph your proposal. Congratulations and happy wedding planning!!!
