If my 2018 wedding season is anything like my first wedding of the year then it's going to be one amazing year. I was so excited when Samara emailed me in January looking for a photographer for her and Adam's wedding in February. When I found out that they were marrying at one of my all time favorite backdrops- Portland City Hall, I just about jumped out of my seat. I've always loved the architecture of Portland City Hall but had never had the opportunity to go inside and photograph with it's gorgeous staircase. Often times when I shoot there the building is locked since it's only open during regular business hours. It was such a treat to get to use the whole place! They have started offering weekend wedding spots making it an amazing option for a ceremony site in Portland, Maine.
And it somehow gets even better- Samara and Adam decided to do the gender reveal of their baby at the wedding as well. Love, beautiful surroundings and people, AND babies. It's an understatement to say that I felt like one lucky photographer that day. Thank you so much Samara and Adam for having me photograph your wedding. Getting to start 2018 with your special day was an amazing way to kick things off. Congratulations!!!
Now for my absolute favorite post of the year (or last year ;) ). Before we get any deeper into 2018 I need to take a moment to reflect on how amazing 2017 was for me and my business. Every year I feel like I grow and last year I felt like I shot up! And not just in my photography, but in my sense of business, in my personal life, in my general approach to most things. It was a year of growth for sure and getting to look back makes me appreciate the journey! In 2017 I shot my first destination wedding in Puerto Rico! I met so many awesome families that welcomed me and gave me the confidence to really do my own thing. Every wedding I've photographed I've walked away remembering how much I love doing what I do. I shot at new venues, new locations, and took more risks. I owe a huge debt of gratitude for the couples that went on these adventures with me. So without further ado here are my favorite images from my 2017 wedding season. Thank you so much for having me along CHP couples! It was a dream year.
The wedding of Maggie and Adam was one of the highlights of my career! I had always dreamed of shooting a christmas themed wedding. While Maine's spring, summer and fall are gorgeous, it's winter is my favorite. It's a really photogenic period of time for the state. There are so many festive decorations everywhere, such a cozy feel to everything, and of course SNOW. Not only does snow make everything beautiful, it's a great natural reflector for lighting subjects. Maggie and Adam decided to have their wedding on December 23rd at The Black Tie Company's Camp Hammond in Yarmouth Maine. The camp was just a little ways from Maggie's family farm. Maggie's mother Danielle is such a great decorator. My mouth practically started watering when I pulled up to their home and saw all the rustic and holiday decorations that were put up. Her and her husband used to be wedding photographers themselves so it comes as no surprise that they have such a great eye for decor. The weather wasn't ideal but I wasn't disappointed in the slightest! I think that because we had to alter our plans we ended up with the best backdrops. Instead of doing a first look outside we used one of the two barns with Adam in the barn and Maggie outside with her adorable red umbrella. We had members of the bridal party slide the doors open for a very sweet and dramatic reveal. We then did family formals in their gorgeously decorated living room. It worked out perfectly and I'm almost thankful for the rain as in the end it gave us the best results. After their first look and pictures we went over to their ceremony and reception at Camp Hammond. Camp Hammond is the perfect spot for a winter wedding. The dim lighting and set up give it a very romantic feel. The ceremony spot was set up so that guests could all watch from the second floor looking down. This was so unique and made the service feel very inclusive. Later, the band played and speeches were given from the second floor with all the guests on the dance floor below. It was a great use of space and something you don't see at every wedding! We ended the night with a sparkler exit. Christmas, unique and beautiful settings, great and meaningful toasts AND sparklers!? Sign me up! Thank you so much Maggie, Adam, and family for having me! Congratulations!
Thanks to the great team that helped make Maggie and Adam's wedding the unforgettable experience that it was!

I'm so happy to jump back into blogging the amazing weddings I was lucky enough to photograph in 2017! My first wedding in October was the rustic, fun, and happy wedding of Jennie and Tony! These two are the SWEETEST. Jennie owns her own day care center and made sure to incorporate the other love of her life, her students, in her wedding. It was so neat as a photographer to photograph not only Tony and Jennie's love that day, but to have all the kids there made for some meaningful photos. One of my favorites of the day is when Jennie decided to hop on the merry-go-round with them, wedding gown and all!
It was also such a treat to return to my own hometown to photograph a wedding. I grew up in East Lebanon, Maine and never knew such a gorgeous wedding venue existed there. Belgian Meadow Farms is the sweetest place with lots of rustic details, and stunning property. It's a great option to host your wedding if you are looking to create an outdoor, farm theme. You can even opt to arrive at your ceremony in a horse drawn carriage with your wedding party with you! Which is exactly what Jennie opted for. Below are some of my favorites from the day. Thank you so much Jennie and Tony for having me there! I'm so happy to know you two.
