I so enjoy taking the “off” season to go back through the summer and fall prior and blog all my amazing sessions and weddings. As 2018 comes to a close it’s the perfect time to go through and reflect. This was my last official session in Acadia National Park and wow did I feel like I went out with a bang. The scenery, colors and lighting meshed so well for my session with Erin and Jake who were in Bar Harbor celebrating an anniversary and a baby on the way! We hit both Jordan Pond and Cadillac Mountain at just the right point in fall foliage. We also hit it on a very high tourist day but found parking effortlessly- and that’s a gift from something else ;) Thank you so much Erin and Jake for having me take these photos. It was so hard to pick my top ones to share here and that’s always a sign of a great session. Here are some of my favorites from our time in Acadia National Park.
Nothing beats a summer trip to Acadia! I'm always so happy to meet with families while they are vacationing in Bar Harbor for some family photos. I got to meet with the Khot family a couple of weeks ago. I loved their energy and with two young boys there was a lot! I welcome it because I think high energy makes for great candid photos. We decided to meet at Sand Beach as I've recently fell in love with the lighting and versatility of backdrops in that spot. I know the sun's routine there like the back of my hand! Thank you so much Khot family for spending some time with me on your vacation!
OH gosh it's so nice to look back at these summer and fall sessions while I'm sitting on my computer hiding away from the "arctic blast" currently happening outside. This session especially gives me so much warmth when I look back at it. Mary and Jamie contacted a little while before their first family trip to Bar Harbor, Maine. They wanted to take some family photos and some portraits of their daughter Alice! It was Alice's first photo shoot they told me and she did a great job! That is one happy girl and this is one happy and loving family. We met a Jordan Pond one morning in October and while it was super windy these three were such champs and we were able to find some corners of the pond to block the wind. Alice was super curious about everything and we had so much fun making her smile for an hour. Thank you so much Mary, Jamie and Alice for including me in a small part of your visit to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor! I hope you visit again!
I don't think anything brings me more joy then when families choose to use me again and again for their photos. Popping in and such pivotal times in people's lives and seeing how they've grown and changed is so fun for me. Also catching up on life with them is really nice. This is the third time that the The Weitkamps have chosen me to take their family photos! The first was when Henry was just a little baby (here) and the second was when he was a toddler walking around the farm (here). They just this summer welcomed baby Cellissa to the clan! Don't they look great as a family of four!? She was such a great sport through her first official photo shoot and even cracked a smile for us a couple of times.
For their family photos this year they wanted something near the ocean with rocky coastline. I reached out to a few of my photographer friends of mine to try and find the closest spot that fit their vision. We decided on Curtis Cove in Blue Hill, Maine. Just about an hour from Bangor, Curtis Cove is a a gorgeous and secluded little nook of Maine ocean. The tide worked so well with us and we were able to get some great photos on the rocks and then go out comfortably to the shore line for Henry to through rocks in. Matt has quite the wealth of knowledge when it comes to marine life and we were able to discover sea glass, algae, and moon snails while exploring the beach. There was also a small farm nearby that we could see cows grazing in. This was really fun for Henry to watch and at the end of the evening we bid ado to them before hoping in our cars and heading out.
I love how Henry posed himself here? Hand to cheek and resting on his mama.
Gwen always does a great job of styling the family photo outfits. I love the colors that she brought together this year. It's no surprise that her great taste has lead her to a career in wedding planning, day of coordination, and event design. I worked with her on a shoot styled that she organized (here) and was floored at what this girl brought together! She really is so good at what she does! Need help planning a proposal? Want a day of coordinator? Want her to take care of the whole event from planning to execution!? She does it it all. She's one of the vendors that I'd recommend over and over again. Her website is Picture Perfect Proposal and you should definitely check her out if you're looking for help in the planning process.
Thank you so much Weitkamps for keeping me around! It's always so fun.
I'm LOVING all these family sessions I've gotten to photograph recently in Acadia. I've said it before and I'll say it again- having professional photos taken of your family while on vacation is such a great idea! The backdrop, the smiles, and the relaxed vacation feel all contribute to a great photo session. A couple of weeks ago I met up with the Colabella family whom were visiting the area and staying Cranberry Island. They wanted to get photos taken of their family while vacationing and I'm so glad they found me! We decided to use the gorgeous Sand Beach as our backdrop and it worked out so well. We got mountain views and rocky shore line, but I think a lot of my favorites were right at the end when they (parents AND children :) ) ran around in the waves. Thank you so much for spending the evening with me Colabellas! I hope you enjoyed the rest of your trip!
