I'm so excited to be sharing my first ever destination wedding, the wedding of Kirsti and John! I met Kirsti years ago when we both worked at Pat's Pizza. I've loved watching her journey online since then, while she moved away, found her dream job, met her dream man- John, and got engaged. I was insanely happy when she contacted me regarding photographing her wedding in Puerto Rico! I obviously said yes and before I knew it we were making travel plans. I got to meet John during their engagement session a little over a year ago (here). From that experience I knew we were going to have a great time working together. For the wedding they had their closest of friends and family fly in from all over the country to witness and celebrate their big day. A lot of guests made a vacation out of it and arrived and left a few days before and after the wedding. We did the same and I'm so glad we did. Not only to experience Puerto Rico, but getting the chance to meet and hang out with their guests was really fun. My family and I explored the rainforest, went kayaking, and spent many hours at the beach with Kirsti and John's families. Everyone was so nice and hospitable that it made me appreciate even more knowing the couple and the opportunity to travel. After a few beach days it was wedding time! Here are some of my favorite pictures from the day.
Kirsti LOVES the Choco bar in Puerto Rico so a trip to grab coffee to sip on during the getting ready portion of the day was a must.
Kirsti and John opted to do a first look to see each other and get a lot of the family formals out of the way before the ceremony. We did it at their ceremony spot which was perfect! Out of the wind but with those gorgeous palm trees in the background.
After pictures it was ceremony time! Kirsti had told me that her favorite part of a wedding is seeing the ring bearer and flower girl walk down the aisle. Since she was the bride this time she was bummed she wouldn't see it! So, I had to squeeze these two in. I love how cute their flower girl was and how confident their ring bearer was. I also love how you can see the ring bearer's mother looking on at him in the background.
A really sweet moment when I think about the day is Kirsti walking into the ceremony with both of her parents.
Kirsti made her vows into a stick figure picture book. The page where she confessed she loved many things about John, including his abs, got a lot of laughs.
After the ceremony we snuck off for a few portraits on the beach.
And then it was time to party! John and Kirsti's wedding toppers were velociraptors dawning a veil and John's true-to-life glasses. I loved them.
See those name plates? Kirsti HANDMADE everyone of them. They also put pictures of the couple together at each place setting with a note to each guest on the back.
After dances and toasts they opened the floor to what was a night of FUN dancing. These people know how to move.
These three were easily found around the whoppie pies for a good part of the night.
Thank you so much for having me Kirsti and John! Here's to your long happy fun marriage!
