I would say about half of my couples opt to have an engagement session photographed prior to their wedding day. While I know some people are looking at the different packages I offer and considering adding one I thought it might be beneficial to write a post on why couples do select to have an engagement session.
to get more out of your wedding photography package.
When a couple selects to have me cover their wedding and adds on an engagement session they get it at a special rate. It's a great way to add so much to your wedding package at not a large cost. To learn more about my pricing visit my pricing page here.
It's a great way to practice working together before the big day
An engagement session can be thought of as a practice session before the big show! You'll get a taste for how I pose, shoot, and work and I'll get an idea of what makes the two of you feel most comfortable. When we both have a feel for how the other works things flow better at the wedding when we will have less time to get the shots.
Save the Dates!
Many of my couples use their engagement photos as Save the Dates to send out prior to a formal wedding invitation. I love receiving them in the mail. They are a great way to get guests excited and to get them to start planning on the logistics of attending your wedding.
To put up at the wedding.
I've seen quite a few couples use their engagement photos as decorations around their wedding reception. It's a visible way to tie your story together for your guests and is a great choice of decoration to spend money on as you'll definitely want to keep them and put them up in your home after.
Another paper good I've seen couples turn their engagement photos into is guest books! It's fun for the guests to get to browse through while thinking of their note to write. I think it also turns your guestbook into something you're more likely to have presented at your home later and thus get more use out of.
another opportunity for photos
This is rather obvious, but I don't think people really take the time to consider it. The instances in life where having your pictures professional taken are appropriate, become less and less. After your senior photos there aren't many other points where anyone looks around and thinks "we need a photographer for this". Besides the wedding and the occasional family shoot someone might organize, engagement pictures might be one of the few chances to actually get you and your partner's photos professionally taken. And what better time to do it? When you are happy, excited, and looking straight into the future with your life partner?
